Heart rate monitoring is probably the best source for enabling a fighter to consistently maintain a specific desired energy system training goal. Because fighting sports are highly aerobic in nature we have to address this in our training along with the other lactic, anaerobic and even alactic energy stores. We always need to look for variety in our workouts to not only refresh our systems physically, but emotionally as well.
