Thor just missed at the Arnolds and without a 3 ply suit that takes off at least 100lbs. Eddie was unable to lift 500kg without a suit at the Arnolds…..he was not even close. Thor is not about to end his career as a Strongman, take a year off to just focus on the deadlift. He won’t have too….which makes it so more than Eddie could ever achieve. Why did Eddie have a Near death experience on that lift, but not in the 100’s of training lifts at and above 450 lmao? Eddie is a fuckin drama queen.

YOU MAKE A SOLID POINT ABOUT INCORPORATING SINGULAR RECORD PRIZES INTO THE TOTAL WINNINGS FOR THE ATHLETES. AS EDDIE SAID HIMSELF, HE WASN’T CAPABLE OF LIFTING 500KG IN THE GYM, HE PLAYED MENTAL GAMES TO SHATTER THE DEADLIFT RECORD

  3. Zaine Ridling says:

Remember, Eddie trained for an entire year for that one deadlift moment (which he didn’t tell anyone he was going to do) , and then when he did, it almost killed him (such extreme blood pressure in your head puts you in ischemic stroke territory). 500kg will stand until Thor wants to break it, and to date, he hasn’t shown the interest.

You are mentioning Eddies 500 in the same context as his previous record of 465 without mentioning that his 500 was done EQUIPPED wearing a suit. This is a major difference, and cannot be compared to his raw accomplishments. The main problem right now in strongman is the difference in equipment being used, some guys going 100 % raw with just sleeves, and others using knee wraps and suits. It gives a skewed perspective of strength of the athletes, ESPECIALLY when they compete in the same segment.

I think people are looking ahead too much is the issue. I can see a time in the future where a 1000lb deadlift is a strongman standard. But that’s not where we are. Also everyone always wants to be wowed out of their mind. Is it exciting to see 450 nowadays? Not really, its nice but im not gonna get pumped about it unless its me doing it lol. But that’s fine, that is reality. Just interject a bit of common sense and all is good. Nobody will lift 500 until they choose to focus only on the deadlift, and when they’re trying to make money by winning shows why would they do one lift only? Also we are humans, strength builds slowly so quit trying to rush people. I would like to take some genetic freak like thor and put him in a lab and pump him full of drugs and research chems and have some human hybrid pulling 6 1/2 tons but that’s a fantasy world lol.
