Strength Block w8d4 – Overload Squats – 14 weeks out

Really struggled this block (and over the past 8 weeks, really) with my squat and have encountered the greatest mental blocks of my lifting career. I even failed to complete a set at 315 one workout, and nearly failed a rep at 500 a week later (black and white footage). I’ve had to quit a few squat workouts before they even really started. This volume has been a huge change for me. Today, though, I finally had a breakthrough. This weight x set scheme is nothing new for me, but to be able to do this after all the recent struggles and under this amount of fatigue feels good and I am happy to be moving forward again.

500×3, 10 sets – backsquat – sets get better as they go on.
405×2, 405×2, 455×2 – pin squat**
405×3, 3 sets – high bar paused

**These past few weeks are the first time I’ve done pin squats. They are the first assistance exercise that I’ve ever noticed a direct carry over from; they are making me feel much more solid in the bottom position.
