Strength Series: Exercise #4 – Assisted Single Leg (SL) Calf Raise

The Assisted Single Leg (SL) Calf Raise, like the other exercises of our Strength Series, emphasizes strengthening the muscles surrounding the knee joint. In this case, we are looking to work the major calf muscles, gastrocnemius and soleus. We are also attempting to improve muscular force capacity through controlling the lowering phase of the exercise at a 4-second speed. Ankle flexion and extension is also key to injury reduction. Being familiar with these movements are critical to all major movements in sports like jumping, accelerating, and decelerating.
